Invisible – Illegal in Europe

‘Invisible – Illegal in Europa’, GER 2004, directed by: Andreas Voigt, 91 min, no subtitles, rating: no age restriction

Leaving everything behind in search of a better life is one of the greatest risks of all. For refugees from the Global South, Europe is a dream destination, but trying to reach it is fraught with danger. Over the course of a year, the film follows five refugees who have travelled to Europe without papers. Zakari is a deserter from Algeria; Malika from Chechnya has fled to Poland with her family; Prince has been detained in a deportation prison in the Netherlands and is due to be sent back to Nigeria; Oumar from Guinea-Bissau is stranded in a camp in Ceuta; Edita, a trans woman from Ecuador, is making her way in Paris. ‘Invisible’ tells of hopes and dreams, the search for happiness, love and home – and what happens to the five protagonists along the way.
