Ramona scrapes by in her dreary everyday life between her job at the cosmetics factory and her backyard flat in drab post-reunification Berlin. At the local train station, she runs into Andrzej, and a love story unfolds between the two outsiders. When Ramona becomes pregnant, happiness seems within reach. But then the dream shatters: Andrzej already has a wife in Poland, Ramona miscarries, and in a desperate attempt to outsmart fate, Ramona kidnaps a baby.
