‘Ostwärts’, G 1991, directed by Christian Petzold, 24 min, no subtitles, rating: 0

Shortly after the Wall’s opening in 1990, filmmaker Christian Petzold ventures into Berlin’s newly accessible countryside with his camera, observing the old and the new. In the suburb of Biesenthal, he interviews three residents who talk about their plans and attempts at an economic fresh start. In unpretentious fashion, the film brings the changes since the fall of the Wall vividly to life.
