Paths in the Night
‘Wege in die Nacht’, G, 1999, directed by Andreas Kleinert, 97 min, with English subtitles, rated: 16
To accompany the Berlinale Retrospective, this streaming edition features nine films that were made outside of the usual production channels. They tell stories of people living on the margins of society. These unconventional lives are sometimes a choice, sometimes a consequence of circumstances, and this is matched by a one-of-a-kind cinematic language. The Retrospective begins its selection with the 1960s, a time of widespread social upheaval, while Selects #7 looks at the period leading up to it.
