‘Sehnsucht in Sangerhausen’ (Phantoms of July)
G 2025, directed by Julian Radlmaier, 90 min, OmeU

Something magical connects the people in a small town in Saxony-Anhalt. A blue stone travels through hands and times, bringing us closer to two women: one works in a café, the other is a YouTuber – and then there’s Sung-Nam. Chance encounters, beautiful tourist attractions, East Germany and love all feature in this enchanting fairy tale, which lures its audience with each chapter and great charm into the depths of the past.

‘A Thousand Waves Away’
G 2025, directed by Helena Wittmann, 10 min, OV

In a time before a thousand waves, young people sought refuge in a sun-drenched sea of flowers and plants. They hand-picked them, fled, and lay down between stones and trembling earth on a carpet of electronic music.

About the film series

Looking Back to the Present

From 14 November to 19 December 2025, we will transform our historic hall in the former E-Werk into a venue for film events. The program includes current festival films, historical works and experimental short films – accompanied by guests such as the musician Sky Deep and the filmmakers Ulrike Ottinger and Julian Radlmaier. The series connects the present with film history and invites viewers to rediscover the Kinemathek as a forum to exchange ideas.
