Films of Political Change

Every first Wednesday of the month, until April 27

General information

Our world is currently facing a wave of political changes: war and oppression, resistance and flight, the transformation of political systems and social hierarchies. From the beginning, film has both documented and influenced such upheavals in real time. In retrospect, film has helped to shape how societies come to terms with and remember these transformations.

The Kinemathek is looking at a range of countries and continents and asking: What can films tell us about the history of political changes? On the first Wednesday of each month, we are screening a title from international film history and inviting experts from the films’ countries of origin to discuss their significance – then and now. This series kicks off the countdown to the FIAF (International Federation of Film Archives) Congress, hosted by the Kinemathek in April 2027.
