studied at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) and at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. Since 2011, he has been section head of archival projects at the Arsenal Filminstitut, leading digitization and restoration projects. These include “Living Archive – Archive Work as a Contemporary Artistic and Curatorial Practice” (2011–2013); “Animated Archive”, dedicated to the digitization of the film holdings of the National Film Institute of Guinea-Bissau (2012); “Studio Gad”, which focused on the digitization and preservation of the private archive holdings of the Sudanese film maker Gadalla Gubara (2013, 2016); and “Archive außer sich” (2017–2021). Ruff is also involved in training in the field of film archiving and preservation.

is the artistic director of the Arsenal Filminstitut in Berlin. She was a member of the selection committee of the Berlinale Forum from 2001 to 2019 and the founding director of the Forum Expanded section from 2006 to 2020. She has curated exhibition and research projects including “Living Archive – Archive Work as a Contemporary Artistic and Curatorial Practice” (2010–2013) and “Archive außer sich” (2017–2022). In 2021, she launched the Archival Assembly festival which has since taken place biennially. Schulte Strathaus is a member of the executive committee of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) and serves on the boards of the “Film Culture” master’s program at the University of Jos in Nigeria and the Harun Farocki Institut in Berlin. She is co-editor (with Vinzenz Hediger) of the book “Accidental Archivism: Shaping Cinema’s Futures with Remnants of the Past” (2024).
