Women are still a minority in film professions and, as performers, they often have to comply with stereotypes. Our program of nine feature and documentary films portrays women in front of and behind the camera who have broken free of these expectations. They have developed screenplays that place the focus on women, their daily work, the household, and beyond. They have created original imagery in a range of ways. The performers in their films do not correspond to conventional ideals of beauty and come from all kinds of social milieus. Sometimes their lives are documented with austere realism, at times provocatively, and at others, tongue in cheek.
