The holdings are part of the film academy’s production archive, and the files have been given to the Kinemathek since 2005. Materials related to the first 20 years of the film school (since 1966) are largely complete. Augmentations to later years followed in 2015. A total of 454 files on students who attended the film school in the years until 1998 contain personal papers, application records, recommendations, certificates and evaluations, as well as records on financial circumstances and court documents. Consent from the person represented in a file must be obtained before viewing privileges can be granted.
Freely accessible are 798 production files categorized into study projects and final film submissions used to qualify for a graduate degree. Exposés, scripts, calculations, discussion records and a great deal more offer insights into working conditions and the development of subject matter. The early years after the founding of the dffb were marked by the search for new forms of production and bitter political discussions. Many at the school who sided with students were involved in the student protests and riots in 1967‒68, including Holger Meins. Documents on this topic are also available.
Information about the planning and implementation of teaching events and meetings of the academic council is provided by125 files on lecturers/professors and 32 event files.
