In this very personal autobiographical documentary about family, love of cinema, and the constant oscillation between homelands, languages, and places, Viola Shafik explores her relationship with her son and his father, the versed film production designer Onsi Abou Seif. At its heart is their shared connection to Egyptian cinema, both past and present: she through her film historical research, he through the development of the visual worlds of numerous cinematic masterpieces from the late 1960s to the present day. They touch and merge with the film’s main as well as more sublime themes: migration, the erasure of places and identities and, last but not the least, political oppression.
