This year, municipal cinemas and film-culture initiatives are being celebrated for the 27th time with the awarding of the Prize of the Association of German Cinematheques. The award aims to support the work of these cinemas at a time of increasing challenges to their existence and, with the accompanying series of events, give them international programming ideas.

About Film Restored

In 2026, the Deutsche Kinemathek’s film heritage festival explores risk in cinema. We are examining the perils facing film producers and distributors; looking at the challenges encountered in archives and during restoration work; and showing films about characters who have everything at stake. These are layers of risk that often overlap and are mutually reinforcing.
