Losers & Winners
General information
Time, class, and milieu in films by director Gerhard Lamprecht
The “Losers & Winners” series of the Deutsche Kinemathek invites you to rediscover the work of its founder, the director and screenwriter Gerhard Lamprecht. Fifty years after his death, a selection of five of Lamprecht’s films that explore topics such as class, milieu, urban life, and mobility will be shown in six Berlin cinemas over the course of a week. Introductions before each screening will link Lamprecht’s work to relevant contemporary issues.
The provocative title “Losers & Winners” addresses the often superficial social categories used to describe different living circumstances. Through an intensive examination of the films selected and the topics they negotiate, the series aims to defy preconceptions and reflect the complexity and diversity of various life trajectories.
