Vacation

‘Ferien’, GER 2007, directed by Thomas Arslan, 91 min, no subtitles, rating: 6

Anna, Robert, and their son Max live in a secluded country house in the unspoiled Uckermark region. Over the summer, the scattered members of their extended family all meet there. Laura, Anna’s daughter from her first marriage, comes for the holidays from Berlin with her boyfriend Paul and their children. But the family’s idyllic appearance is deceptive. Anna’s mother falls so seriously ill that she has to be cared for inside the house. Cracks begin to show in Paul and Laura’s relationship and the sudden appearance of Laura’s sister Sophie causes further ripples. These strangers, who know each other intimately, orbit around each other for a summer. Smoldering conflicts ignite as long-buried lies are exposed, threatening to break the family’s fragile bonds.

Featuring: Angela Winkler, Karoline Eichhorn, Uwe Bohm, Anja Schneider, Gudrun Ritter, Wigand Witting u. a.
