Eighteen-year-old Inge Kuckert and her four younger siblings become orphans shortly after the Second World War. Finding a place to live in the ruins of Berlin proves impossible as no one is interested in giving these young scallywags a place to live. A bombed-out villa in Grunewald seems to be a suitable future “cuckoos’ nest”, and the five immediately set about renovating with enthusiasm. But a certain Mr. Schultz, who claims to have authority over the building, has other plans …
