On the Road
General information
On the Road
Selects #9 | 1 Aug–13 Oct 24
In our ninth edition of the “Selects” streaming program, we hit the road with travelers heading for the unknown or on journeys to find themselves. On foot, by car, in a train, or just in their minds, these protagonists are all on the move. Nine selected films study different forms of travel and their effects.
‘The Cuckoo Years’ by George Moorse turns “On the Road” into a metaphor for an itinerant lifestyle. In ‘Tango Traum’, Helke Misselwitz attempts to create a faraway world at an ordinary living room table. The short film ‘Detour’ by Ute Aurand and Ulrike Pfeiffer focuses on being in motion, turning the view from a train window into a fleeting canvas.
But even when destinations are reached, movement often does not end, but only just begins. In Egon Günther’s ‘The Keys’ or Claudia von Alemann’s ‘The Journey to Lyon’, places serve as a screen on which to project past and present. New impressions mix with our own experiences and sometimes offer new ways of life.
