The double DVD presents two films by Gerhard Lamprecht that sketch out societal panoramas in Berlin during the late 1920s. Menschen untereinander portrays the social microcosm of an apartment building, whose residents represent a cross-section of poverty, corruption and the need for sympathy. In Unter der Laterne, the young Else embarks down the wrong path after an argument with her father. Her life as a high-class mistress is her first step in a spiraling downward fall.
