Karl Michael Vogler
; Vogler, Karl-Michael
actor
* in Remscheid
† in Seehausen am Staffelsee
Following his theatre debut in 1950, Vogler became increasingly well-known in film and television by the late 1950s. During the second half of the 1960s, he was also involved in international film productions (for example, in 1970 in Jerzy Skolimowki’s ‘Deep End’). But, above all, West German television could not do without the popular mime in hundreds of roles produced for all broadcasting formats.
About the Estate
Vogler, who possessed a sonorous voice, showed a particular interest in language and recitation. He was continuously involved with audio plays and lectures. With his Teleportation production company, he realized documentaries and a feature film that he directed himself, as well as readings, literary and musical events, which he initiated, designed and marketed. A large number of his reading scripts are available in handwritten and duplicate copies provided with metrical annotations. The other scripts, including screenplays, are also full of corresponding annotations and markup.
Vogler documented his work using scrapbooks, press reviews, thematic programme offers and his company’s business records. He was also very fond of notes, and his work records are correspondingly rich in annotations.
The estate came into the Kinemathek in 2013, a gift from the actor’s wife, Maria Vogler. It comprises comprehensive and complete documentation of the work of an actor who served and helped to shape the German and Austrian cultural and media business of the second half of the 20th century in its entire spectrum. These papers offer a series of holdings on Vogler’s training that complement the documentation of his professional career. However, except for some photos, purely private documents are rare.
