ASPIRATIONAL DREAMS

DCP world premiere

Introduction: Bianca Jasmina Rauch (film scholar, journalist, curator)

Young Kitty Holm is a secretary at a Berlin car dealership and dreams of being a great lady one day. When she delivers a car to the upper-class spa town of Sophienbad, a misunderstanding persists, allowing her to assume the life of a countess from then on …
Shot by Gerhard Lamprecht in 1933, this musical comedy about dreams of upward social mobility is the best example of the director’s many years of collaboration with women on both sides of the camera. The film’s style is rooted in Weimar cinema, although the regressive ideas about gender roles and class of the Nazi era are already apparent.
