Film history around the Kinemathek
City walk
Sun 15.2.26, 15:00–17:00
Kinemathek – entrance (outside)
The area around Friedrichstrasse is a central location in film history and an open-air attraction you can explore on foot: pioneers of German film worked here, film policy was made, and numerous films were shot. Meanwhile, the area’s cultural life was shaped by Weimar-era pleasure palaces and, after the fall of the Wall, by techno clubs.
The tour begins at E-Werk, the Kinemathek’s new location, and continues through the surrounding neighborhood, which was once known as the “film district”. Stops will be made at selected locations where film history was made, or where international films were shot, giving a fresh perspective on the area.
