The restoration of this film itself proved to be a ‘risky business’ because the absence of the entire third reel demanded a balance between minimal intervention and narrative comprehension. The 2025 restoration in 4K by the DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum was from an incomplete 35mm nitrate print with Swedish intertitles and a duplicate negative made in 1994. The German intertitles were recreated with the aid of the permit card issued in 1929. Explanatory intertitles were added to fill gaps in the narrative. The digitization was funded by the German Film Heritage Program (FFE).

is a versatile drummer and percussionist who has devoted much of his musical career over the past 30 years to silent film accompaniment. He regularly performs at major festivals and venues around the globe and records soundtracks for silent films. Over the years, Bockius has developed a close musical partnership with Günter A. Buchwald.

is a pianist, violinist, conductor and composer. He is recognized as a pioneer of the silent film music renaissance and one of the most experienced musicians in this field. Since 1978, he has been accompanying silent films with a repertoire that now includes more than 3,600 titles. Since 1984, he has performed regularly at film festivals in Berlin, Bonn, Munich, Zurich, at the Bristol Slapstick Festival (as musical director), the Giornate del Cinema Muto silent film festival in Pordenone and, since 2013, at the San Francisco Silent Film Festival. He regularly conducts symphony and chamber orchestras and composes music for silent films. Among other honors, Buchwald is the recipient of the City of Freiburg’s Culture Prize (2012), the Ad Hoc Prize from the Beethoven Festival in Bonn (2012), the German Silent Film Prize (2021) and the Honorary Film Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg (2022).

studied economics and then worked freelance for various museums. Since 1999, he has been head of the film archive and film technology collection at the DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum in Frankfurt/Main (German Film Institute & Film Museum) where his work includes film restoration and DVD production; collaboration on and conceptualization of film history exhibitions and film series; and editing catalogues and publications on German cinema. Since 2013, Worschech has also been responsible for the DFF’s digitization projects.
