In ‘In the Shadows’, the risky business is criminal business – and the stakes are high: Trojan is a professional with a knack for robberies. After his release from prison, he picks up where he left off. But then, while preparing for his next job, he finds himself in the crosshairs of a corrupt police officer. In a web of mistrust, betrayal, surveillance and violence, the cold-blooded Trojan walks a metaphorical tightrope. The film, which premiered at the 2010 Berlinale, pays homage to the classic gangster genre, distilling its essential traits.

Thomas Arslan

was born in Braunschweig and lived in Essen before moving to Ankara, Turkey, where he attended primary school. In 1971, he returned to Essen where he completed high school in 1982. After two semesters studying in the German department of the University of Munich, he transferred to the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB), graduating in 1992. Arslan has worked as a screenwriter and director ever since; he has also been a professor of narrative film at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) since 2007.

Anke Hahn

has been responsible for cinema and festival distribution at the Deutsche Kinemathek since 2005. As part of this activity, she initiates and organizes film series and events. Hahn has been the project manager and program coordinator of the “Film Restored” film heritage festival since its inception in 2017 and has been responsible for the Deutsche Kinemathek’s “Selects” streaming program since 2022.
