MISSION: EDUCATION

Screening ‘Dangers on the City Streets’, GER, 1924, directed by Toni Attenberger

OV (silent, with music)

Original format: 35 mm, 1:1.33 bw and tinted

Screening print: DCP, 67 min, Filmmuseum München

Made in collaboration with the Munich police, this public service film melds documentary footage, reconstructions, and short acted scenes to raise awareness about conditions on city streets, traffic regulations, crime, and law enforce- ment services. The result is an amazingly entertaining film that, despite its very local scope, was seen far afield from Munich and even screened abroad.

The film was reconstructed based on an almost intact nitrate print with dual-language intertitles held by the Cinémathèque Suisse, supplemented with fragments from the German original held in the collection of the Munich city archives and the Filmmuseum Munich. The digital restoration incorporated the original tinting of the film. Richard Siedhoff composed and played the new music.

Introduction: Stefan Drössler (Filmmuseum München)

→ Tickets: 8,50 €
