The Filmhaus

The Filmhaus at Potsdamer Straße 2, 10785 Berlin, houses:


The Deutsche Kinemathek – Museum für Film und Fernsehen with its Permanent Exhibition on German film history (3rd floor), its Permanent Exhibition on German television (3rd floor), diverse special exhibitions (1st floor) and its, for the public, invisible archive.


The Friends of German Film Archive / Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art e. V., a society established in 1963, operates Kino Arsenal in the 2nd floor basement. In two modern theaters, classics of film history, retrospectives, series on single countries and/or themes are screened. The Arsenal also organizes the International Forum of New Cinema, an independent section of the Berlinale. The Arsenal's film distribution department has c. 800 titles; the Arsenal’s film archive, c. 7,000 films.

The Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB) (8th/9th floors). Founded in 1966, the dffb offers professional schooling for artistic careers in the fields of film and television. Partner of the DFFB is the City State of Berlin.

The Library (5th floor) has literature on film, television and media. It contains c. 80,000 items: books, periodicals, festival catalogues, movie theater and television programs, distributors’ catalogues and a selection of films on DVD including two viewing stations. The Library also has an extensive press archive.

The Museum Shop on the ground floor offers an extensive assortment of film books, DVDs, soundtracks, as well as merchandising products. The Deutsche Kinemathek’s own publications are also available for purchase.
