The Deutsche Kinemathek – Museum für Film und Fernsehen regularly publishes books and brochures on diverse topics related to the history of film. The focus is on the history of film and television in Germany, ranging in time from the days of Wilhelminian Germany to the Weimar Republic, from the National Socialist era to the period of the occupied zones, the GDR and the Federal Republic of Germany. A special emphasis is placed on the emigration of German film artists from 1933 onwards. The publications of the Deutsche Kinemathek also explore subjects related to the development of international film and television.
The books and brochures of the Deutsche Kinemathek are independent works and published by different renowned publishing houses. They appear as part of specific study series or as catalogues and supplements for special exhibitions and other events of individual departments of the Museum für Film und Fernsehen. In collaboration with the Berlin International Film Festival, books are also conceived and edited by the Deutsche Kinemathek for the festival’s historical Retrospectives and Homages.
