Bernd Eichinger (1949–2011) was one of the most important and most influential German film producers of recent decades. This exhibition introduces Eichinger, the producer, as a “creative authority.” His biography is told from different perspectives in four main subject areas, entitled “Germany,” “America,” “Outsiders” and “Heroes.” They encompass his childhood in the Bavarian provinces and youth spent at a Catholic boarding school, his studies at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF), his activities as a producer – initially with Solaris Film- und Fernsehproduktion, then up to and including his international successes with Constantin Film – as well as his work as a writer and director. The center of the exhibition is characterized by an installation with Bernd Eichinger’s desk from his apartment in Munich and a number of large-scale projections. This media installation conveys the versatile film imagery, Eichinger’s willingness to take risks, his energy and the powerful potential surrounding this producer, author and director, who so often provoked controversial discussions in Germany.
