In 1985, the Archive for Animation and Special Effects was established by Rolf Giesen, who is still in charge of its content.
It contains masks, matte paintings, models, figurines and aliens, plastinates, props, dioramas, animation cels and special equipment.
Much of the collection has been indexed in a databank and photographed. Objects may be borrowed free of charge for exhibitions at public institutions. High insurance costs and elaborate shipping precautions are to be expected.
Only selected items may be borrowed for other purposes. Fees vary depending on the nature and rarity of an object.
A visit to the collection is only possible after defining its purpose.
